A woman in her 20’s, eighteen weeks pregnant, visited Connect Chiropractic.

Her chief complaint was low back pain on her right side and some numbness. She had visited two other chiropractic clinics before Dr. Kosuke saw her. The patient said the previous adjustments were actually just taps on her back from both of them. According to the chiropractors who adjusted her, “giving an adjustment to someone who pregnant is very difficult”. Dr. K totally agrees with this opinion; however, chiropractors can adjust a pregnant woman not only by “TAPPING”.

When Dr. K adjusts someone who is pregnant, he uses a pregnancy pillow, which the patient can lay down on their stomach even during pregnancy. Because of it, future moms will not give extra pressure to their babies. He also uses Webster Technique which is a specialized chiropractic adjustment designed for pregnant women.

After the patient got an adjustment at Connect Chiropractic the pain was gone! Dr. K gave some advices to prevent future pain and have a happy and healthy life.

What is the Webster Technique?

“The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.”

The patient is 52 year old male, his main complaint was neck pain. Two weeks prior to his visit the patient tried to pick up something from the floor when he heard a “popping” sound from his neck and since then has felt pain.

It was hard for him to look up and down as well as turn his head to the right.

When the patient got a check from Kosuke a subluxation from C1 and T3 was found. Kosuke adjusted the patient with a toggle for C1 and the Thompson table. After adjustment, the patient’s pain was decreased; from 8 out of 10 with VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) to 1 out of 10 with VAS. Additionally, the patient had an increase in his range of neck motion.

The patient is a 65 year old women who speaks English. She complained of low back pain on the left side and also felt numbness until above the knee, which started 5 month ago. First she visited a nearby hospital and even though she got some medication, it did not work. She went to massage therapist but it also did not help. Her friend told her to visit Connect Chiropractic because Kosuke is doctor of chiropractic and speaks English. When she got to the clinic, she dragged her left leg because of the pain. She said “Please help me. I could not sleep well the last couple of months and it is even hard to lay down on my back now.”  After her initial check a subluxation was found by her left ilium and C5.

She received an adjustment with Thompson technique and the pain was decreased right away as well as the numbness. Kosuke advised her to come back for a re-check within a week to make sure the subluxation healed.

Today’s case report is about “Spinal Stenosis”

The patient is a 78 year old women. She complained she felt numb on her right leg, specifically blow the knee for the last 5 years. She feels severe pain constantly and has visited various clinics such as a Hospital, Acupuncture, PT, Massage, and Chiropractic where she was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis. She visited Connect Chiropractic because her friend recommended getting an adjustment from Dr. Kosuke.

The patient was given an assessment and was found to have a subluxation at L5 and right SI joint. When she got an adjustment with Thompson technique, her pain dramatically decreased. After she also got an adjustment with Flexion Distraction Table. She did not feel pain after it and was told to recheck within a week.

Spinal Stenosis is a narrowing of the spaces within your spine, which can put pressure on the nerves that travel through the spine. Spinal Stenosis occurs most often in the lower back and the neck. Some people with spinal stenosis may not have symptoms. Others may experience pain, tingling, numbness and muscle weakness. Symptoms can worsen over time.

Spinal stenosis is most commonly caused by wear-and-tear changes in the spine related to osteoarthritis. In severe cases of spinal stenosis, doctors may recommend surgery to create additional space for the spinal cord or nerves.
